The public is being invited to a Great War centenary service of remembrance.

The Leytonstone branch of the Royal British Legion will be holding the service on November 9 at the Harrow Green Cenotaph.

The parade will start at the Homebase car park at 10am, complete with the drummers from the ATC Cadet Corp, and will march to the War Memorial for the service, beginnng at 10.30am.

A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am.

Churches, schools, councillors and the mayor of Waltham Forest will attend.

Wreaths will be laid and the Last Post will be performed by a bugler in full uniform.  

After the service, everyone is invited for refreshments at the Leytonstone Ex-Servicemens’ Club, in Harvey Road, Leytonstone.

Ray Gross, secretary of Leytonstone Royal British Legion, expects between 400 and 450 people to join the march and service.

He said: “This year being the centenary year we are expecting a very large turnout compared to previous years where we normally number around 200.

“It is the big one and is so important, we have had a fantastic response, and the public have been absolutely fantastic.

“To be able to hear the Last Post live for the first time since 2007 in Leytonstone will be fantastic too.”
