Options on the future of two landmark towers are to be discussed at a public meeting.

A consultation on the proposed multi-million pound regeneration of Fred Wigg and John Walsh towers, in Montague Road, Leytonstone, was launched in September last year.

The meeting to discuss the options, organised by Waltham Forest council, will take place at 6.30pm on November 4 at Epicentre Community Centre, in West Street, Leytonstone.

The Guardian understands demolition is under consideration.

Cabinet member for housing Cllr Khevyn Limbajee, said: “The council is committed to improving the living conditions for its tenants and generally boosting the regeneration of Waltham Forest.

“Along with the views of local residents, these will be major factors in the decision over regeneration proposals for Fred Wigg and John Walsh towers.

“Consultation with residents around options for improving the towers began in September 2013.

“Councillors and council officers are organising a public meeting on November 4 to further engage with local people about regeneration proposals.

“Following the public meeting, Waltham Forest’s cabinet members will discuss proposals for improvement work at a council meeting on November 11."

The two towers, which overlook Wanstead Flats, controversially had missiles stationed on their roofs by the Ministry of Defence during the 2012 Olympic Games.
