Police will provide an update on controversial plans to close Leytonstone’s only police station tonight.
Leytonstone neighbourhood policing team will provide an update on the closure in a community ward forum after it was confirmed last month that Scotland Yard had decided to shut the Kirkdale Road base.
A date has not been finalised for the closure, and the police has been tight-lipped on the details.
Residents and councillors have spoken out about the closure, and Leyton MP John Cryer said he was repeatedly assured the station would not close.
They say the closure is unjustified as it will leave a large area without a fully-functioning police station.
The meeting will also see Lorna Lee, head of cultural and community services at Waltham Forest council, give a presentation on Leytonstone Library refurbishment plans.
The Leytonstone community ward forum will take place from 7pm at St John’s Church Hall, in High Road, Leytonstone.
