New "natural" play equipment could be erected next to a boating lake, with proposals due to be lodged in January.

Waltham Forest council is working on a proposal to establish the equipment at Corporation of London-owned Hollow Pond, in Whipps Cross Road, Leytonstone.

The facility will be next to the boat hire facility on the east side of the pond.

Waltham Forest deputy council leader, Labour Cllr Clyde Loakes, met with representatives of the Corporation of London last week.

The corporation made it clear in the meeting that the council will have to maintain the equipment, it must have a natural appearance, and be made of English Oak.

The play equipment will be a series of logs used for stepping, balancing and for other games.

Cllr Loakes said: “I am keen to move forward with this and still believe that something really good can be delivered.

“The council is writing a proposal that takes into consideration all the above parameters, to be submitted to the Corporation of London committee for their consideration, in January.”
