An event which seeks to prove that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure will be held this weekend.

Walthamstow’s first official ‘give and take day’ has been organised to encourage people to reuse and recycle items by swapping them with others in the community.

On Saturday at Harmony Hall residents will be able to give away goods and see what others have to offer.

It has been organised by North London Waste Authority and London Community Resource Network (LCRN) – a charity which hopes to get people in the capital thinking about responsible waste management and recycling.

Anything from sofas fridges, clothes and general household items can be taken along and workshops will be offered on how to repair and renew furniture.

Councillor Clyde Loakes, Deputy Leader & Chair of NLWA says: “The Give and Take initiative is a terrific example of how the community can learn and embrace different ways of recycling and reusing. “ The event will take place between 2.30pm and 5.30pm.

There will also be a free collection for this event of bulky item from homes for residents of Enfield, to book in advance, on a first come first serve basis up until 31 October 2014.

To book a collection, please email in advance: manuela@lcrn.org.uk or text 07811 237329.
