Pupils were given an insight into the life of a health professional at the sixth 'Medicine Matters' event.

The aspiring doctors and dentists met academics and students from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry on Wednesday at Bancroft's School in Woodford Green, in High Road.

Year 12 pupils attened from Wanstead County High, Seven Kings Hill, Oaks Park High School, Beal High School, Woodford County High, Ilford County High and Bancroft’s itself.

The event included hands-on clinical workshops on taking blood samples and providing stitches, a session on immunology by Queen Mary University and a question and answer forum with medical students.

Emma Jackson, 16, of Bancroft's said: "It was useful to get to talk to students who are half way through their course as we do not get that kind of knowledge from teachers at school."
