Police say there have been no confirmed attempts to abduct children in Chingford following an investigation.

Parents of children at Larkswood Primary School in New Road, Chingford, were informed last week by text that the walkway would remain closed permanently from Friday for unspecified “safeguarding reasons”.

A leaflet issued to parents confirmed it was because a child had been approached by a man on their way to school, but no further details were given.

It followed a warning to parents issued by nearby Chase Lane Primary School in York Road following two incidents which were said to relate to another, unspecified school.

Parents in nearby Enfield are being warned by police to be on their guard after two attempted abductions.

A man and a woman in a white transit van attempted to abduct two girls aged 11 and 16 on October 13 in Southbury Road and a similar incident was reported on Wednesday in Baker Street.

The two 11-year-olds noticed the man and woman watching them from their white van. The pair then got out of the van and followed the girls.

Police say they are aware of one incident in Chingford during which a man approached a girl and attempted to engage her in conversation.

An investigation is said to be ongoing, but police say no attempted abduction took place.
