A MP has backed a campaign to microchip dogs.
Over 10,000 microchipped dogs have so far been returned using the service, supported by the dog welfare charity, the Dogs Trust.
Following legislation that comes into effect in April 2016 owners of dogs found without a microchip could face a £500 fine.
Speaking yesterday Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing urged her dog-owning constituents to support the chipping campaign.
She said: “Compulsory microchipping will make it easier to reunite lost dogs with their owners and cuts unnecessary kennelling costs for local authorities.
