A memorial bench in tribute to a former colleague has been installed at a hospital.

Chief pharmacy technician Lauren Goldberg, who worked at King George hospital in Goodmayes for 10 years, died at the age of 50 of breast cancer in October 2012.

The new bench was unveiled at a ceremony yesterday with the pharmacy team, Barking, Havering and Redbridge University NHS trust (BHRUT) chief executive Matthew Hopkins, and Lauren’s family - including her son Janson and her mother and father, Sylvia and Cyril Simmons.

The pharmacy team were all dressed in her favourite colour purple as they unveiled the bench, placed outside of the pharmacy office.

Lauren’s son, Janson, said: “This was a really proud moment to know that all of the people that worked with her over the years have remembered her.

"It has been lovely to come back to the hospital and see so many familiar faces.”

Her former colleague, senior pharmacist, Yousaf Razzak, said: “It was a pleasure to remember Lauren in this way.

"She worked so hard to help students prepare for their exams and she was a real role model for development, promoting high standards and helping people develop to the best of their ability.

"We miss her hugely.”
