A driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injuries to a motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was hospitalised after being thrown from his bike after it was in the collision in The Crooked Mile in Waltham Abbey at around 6pm on Saturday.

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Tilbury, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving at the scene.

The victim, a 37-year-old man, was conscious but suffered severe leg pain and cuts.

He was taken immediately to Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, where his condition has been described as serious but stable.

The road was closed following the collision between the blue BMW and the blue and white Suzuki motorcycle until 1am on Sunday while police completed their investigations.

The arrested man has been released on police bail until January 29 when he will return to a police station.

Police are appealing for witnesses, especially anyone who was overtaken by the car or affected by its driving before the crash.
