A British man accused of stabbing a Waltham Forest teenager to death on his 19th birthday has been acquitted of murder in Greece.

Tyrell Matthews-Burton, who lived with his mother in Leytonstone, was fatally knifed in Malia outside a club in July 2013.

It was his first holiday away from his mother and younger sister.

University student Myles Litchmore-Dunbar was acquitted of killing him by a Greek court yesterday.

The 20-year-old was released after spending more than a year in jail.

He has always protested his innocence, claiming he was trying to break up a fight involving multiple British tourists.

Others charged with public order offences were also acquitted.

Mr Matthew-Burton, described as a popular but shy boy who adored his younger sister, was working for Next in Wood Green having left Redbridge College, where he studied sports science when he died.

He previously attended Barclay Primary School and Leytonstone School.

His murder has prompted criticism of the UK government, as his mother Sharon-Ann Matthews, 43, was forced to try to raise £30,000 to access his trial and transport vital witnesses.

Mr Litchmore-Dunbar told reporters in Greece this morning that he intends to return to university in the UK.
