Sixth-form provision in Waltham Forest could be expanded to meet rising demand.

Both Norlington School for Boys and Lammas Sports College, both in Leyton, have been earmarked to provide learning between the ages of 16 and 18, under plans to be considered by the council’s cabinet.

Lammas School, in Seymour Road, and Norlington School for Boys, in Norlington Road, both have a rising number of pupils applying for sixth form places at other schools.

On Tuesday, Councillor Mark Rusling, portfolio lead member for children and young people, will present a report to the cabinet detailing the proposals.

The report states: “The addition of sixth forms at Lammas School and Sports College and Norlington School for Boys is expected to enhance the options available to young people in Waltham Forest and compliment the offer already available.

“It would also meet the needs of those young people who prefer the smaller school environment, with which they are already familiar, to much larger college-based provision.”

Last year 725 pupils travelled out of the borough to continue their education, with the majority going to Epping Forest College.

A consultation was carried out in September, with people objecting to the proposal and 84 in support.
