The family of a teenager stabbed to death on his 19th birthday have spoken of their “utter devastation” after a man accused of his murder was acquitted following a trial in Greece.

Tyrell Matthews-Burton was killed outside a club in Malia in July 2013.

He was due to fly home to Leytonstone the next day.

This week, Myles Litchmore-Dunbar was cleared of murder after spending a year in a Greek jail.

Rosemary Matthews, Mr Matthews-Burton’s aunt, said his 43-year-old mother, Sharon-Ann, is “broken” after sitting through the trial.

She said: “We are absolutely devastated, but we were not totally surprised because of the way it was handled by the courts in Greece.

“Sharon is completely broken. She had to sit in the court and re-live it.

“No justice has been done for Tyrell.

The family has criticised the government for a lack of support, claiming investigators should have been sent abroad, as has happened in other cases.

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy has also called on prime minister David Cameron to help ensure justice is served.
