A date has been announced for the Christmas lights switch-on in Ongar.

The event will take place on November 28 in the town centre and will feature carol singing and a Santa’s grotto.

The event, which has been organised by the Ongar Town Forum, will feature stilt walkers, jugglers and a firework display.

An unnamed cast member from The Only Way is Essex star will flick the switch on the night and Father Christmas will be arriving in town on the Epping Ongar Railway.

Members of the Ongar Mum’s Group will be dressed as elves in the next few weeks to sell tickets for the grotto.

Debra Coates-Reynolds, an organiser for the group, said: “Excitement is starting to build now.

“Once the fireworks are out of the way the Christmas buzz starts to emerge.”
