A poppy display has been created by children at an infant’s school as part of their education on the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

Pupils at Oakdale Infant School in Woodville Road, South Woodford, have created a display of hanging poppies after being inspired by the Tower of London's installation of 888,246 ceramic poppies.

Each child from reception through to nursery created their own poppy which was displayed today during a special assembly to mark Armistice Day.

As part of their history curriculum, year two pupils have studied the topic of Remembrance by reading the book 'One Boy's War written by Lynn Huggins-Cooper and Ian Benfold Haywood.

This morning children read aloud to staff and parents the First World War poem 'In Flanders Field' written in 1915 by John McCrae before falling silent at 11am.

The display will be left up for the school's parents' evenings on Wednesday and Thursday.
