A teenager was selected to be in the Cenotaph Guard of Honour at the weekend.

Richard Stavri, former student of Chigwell School in High Road, Chigwell, was one of 15 to be selected and stand guard on Sunday after having gained the highest award in Scouting.

The honour was founded after the First World War when King George V invited London-based Queen's (then called King's) Scouts to form a Guard of Honour along the walk to the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday in recognition of Scouting's efforts and sacrifices during the War.

Richard said: “Whilst certainly an incredible honour to be right at the centre of the national service it was also incredibly exciting to be within touching distance of the Queen and members of the Royal Family, the Prime Minister and countless other dignitaries.”
