A campaign to give every child in social care a gift this Christmas will be launched this evening.

The initiative, run by Waltham Forest police with the help of the council, is to focus on children in Waltham Forest who is either fostered or being looked after by social services.

It will be centred on a Christmas tree located outside of Chingford Police station in King's Head Hill.

The public are being invited to take a tag hanging from the tree, which will include the child's name and age, and buy a gift for them.

It will then be delivered by police officers in the run-up to Christmas.

Waltham Forest Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Mark Collins will announce further details about the campaign at Chingford Police station at 6.30pm today.

Chief Supt Collins said: "The MPS will be undertaking this task, which we hope will bring home the true meaning of Christmas to children who may be less fortunate than others."
