An operatic society was visited by three Chelsea pensioners on the opening night of a new production last week.

Loughton Operatic Society performed 'songs that won the war', which launched on Wednesday, in front of pensioners Fred Rook B.E.M, Steve Lovelock and Fred Richardson, who attended as honorary guests.

The men were met with a standing ovation as the audience were asked to pay tribute to the trio, their comrades and to all the fallen heroes of the last 100 years.

Director of the show, Jeanette Abrahams, said: "during the interval the Chelsea Pensioners visited the cast and crew backstage.

"We feel privalidged as a society that they came along to see the show."
