A teenager has received the first Epping Forest Apprentice of the Year award.

Kyle Toby of Loughton-based chartered accountants Haslers was presented with the award, sponsored by Higgins Group, at the Young People Business Awards held in Waltham Abbey this month.

The 19-year-old was recognised for his exceptional work in exams at the firm as well as actively participating in charitable work and the organisation of a football match.

The former Davenant Foundation School student received one of six awards acknowledging the achievements of young entrepreneurs, apprentices and the business that has been supported them over the last 12 months.

Davenant Foundation School headteacher Chris Seward said: “I am sure Kyle is a very deserving winner.

"He made a very positive decision when he decided to leave school with good A-levels and move on to an high quality apprenticeship with Haslers.

"This was the right move for Kyle and confirms the development of apprenticeships as a realistic alternative to university and higher education.

"I am sure he will do extremely well in his future career.”
