A musical is to be performed by a cast of air cadets to commemorate soldiers who died in the First World War.

The musical, Epping’s War, is an adapted version of the renowned 1963 satirical musical Oh! What a Lovely War and will be performed by members of the 414 Epping and North Weald Air Cadets.

The show, which will be staged as a one-off performance at Epping Hall on November 29, has been updated with stories of soldiers from Epping who served in the Great War.

The show has been organised by flight lieutenant John Hawkins of the Air Cadets and adapted by his wife Christine Hawkins.

Mr Hawkins said that the squadron had attended remembrance services this year but they wanted to do more to remember the lost soldiers on the centenary of the conflict.

He said: “Because we are marking the 100 years since the war, we joined the marches and went to services.

“But because of the special significance, we wanted to do something of our own that people would remember.”

Money raised by the show will be donated to the Royal British Legion’s poppy appeal and Epping Town Council has funded the cost of hiring Epping Hall for the show.
