A cyclist involved in a collision with a transit van yesterday afternoon is now in a critical but stable condition, police have said.

The man, reported to be in 50s, was taken to the Royal London hospital in Whitechapel with a doctor on board from London's Air Ambulance after the accident in Lea Bridge Road, at the junction with Orient Way, in Leyton.

Emergency services including the air ambulance arrived at the scene at around 1.40pm yesterday.

Paramedics treated the cyclist for head and chest injuries at the scene for over an hour before he was taken to hospital.

The van stopped at the scene and no arrests have been made.

Bus diversions remained in place until the eveningrush-hour, with drivers being forced to turn around at the flyover with Argall Way and Orient Way.
