A school has raised £71,000 for Cancer Research in memory of a student and teacher.

Chigwell School in High Road, Chigwell, recently added £39,000 to their fundraising total after a 40 member team completed the The Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon.

The team, made up of staff, parents and school alumni, were the largest ever to run the race.

They began fundraising in January after losing student Grace Boxall and Head of Physics, Mr Andrew McKenzie to cancer.

Combined with the Mark Ramprakash Pro and Celebrity Cricket Match at the Old Chigwellians Club, a silent auction and numerous coffee mornings, the school have raised £71,000 and will continue their efforts into 2015.

Chigwell School Development Manager Gill Punt said: "2014 saw Chigwell School pull together to raise money for a variety of worthy causes but support for a cancer charity was particularly pertinent given that we had lost two members of the school.

"The team has raised over £39,000 from the half marathon and certainly did Chigwell School proud.

"It was a truly amazing race and certainly a day which will be remembered by runners and supporters alike."
