Councillors have confirmed that new properties built as part of a £4m housing project will only be let to families on their housing register.

The 23 new homes, which work began on last week, are scheduled to be erected in Waltham Abbey sites, Harveyfields, Roundhills and Fairways, by October 2015.

In total the sites will provide four one bedroom flats, five two bedroom flats, six two bedroom houses, six three bedroom houses and two one bedroom duplex houses.

The new builds, which are set to be the first constructed by Epping Forest District Council in 30 years, will be let to families on the Epping Forest Disctrict Council housing register at ‘affordable rents’.

Councillors have identified 65 sites across the district in hopes of delivering around 300 new affordable homes over the next 10 years.

Plans are now in place for the second phase of the Council’s house-building programme.
