The best and worst GPs in Wanstead and Woodford were revealed in a report released this week.

Health watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), ranked almost every GP surgery in England in terms of risk of providing poor care.

A total of 11% across the country have been rated in the highest risk band by the CQC.

Six practices were ranked in Wanstead, South Woodford and Woodford Green.

The worst ranking of the six is Evergreen Surgery, in High Street, Wanstead, with the highest possible risk (Band one).

The report indicated that the surgery was below targets in the monitoring of patients with diabetes, and it was not offering enough support to stop people smoking.

In contrast Wanstead Place Surgery, just located around the corner in Wanstead Place, was rated in the lowest possible risk category (Band Six).

The surgery’s report showed there was no evidence of risk in any category.

Woodford’s reports were more consistent, with three surgeries rated in the lowest possible risk category.

The report of Shrubberies Medical Practice, in The Shrubberies, South Woodford, indicated no evidence of risk.

This was the same for Queen Mary Practice, in High Road, South Woodford, and Rydal Group Practice, in High Road, Woodford Green.

However, Glebelands Practice, in Glebelands Avenue, South Woodford, was given an average risk score of three.

The report said this was due to the low diagnosis of dementia patients and the difficulty of getting an appointment at the practice.
