An MP has asked the Leader of the House of Commons to look into a proposed 45-home development on green belt land.

Robert Halfon has vowed to help his constituents in Nazeing who are fighting the plan, which was controversially approved earlier this month.

He met William Hague at the House of Commons on Thursday and said the former Foreign Secretary has pledged to raise the case with relevant ministers.

Mr Halfon said: “All of the land around Nazeing is green belt, and the village has hundreds of years of history.

"Although I would like to see more house building, this shouldn’t be at the expense of beautiful villages, and should be the very last resort.

“I will do whatever I can to represent the views of residents and secure the best solution for Nazeing.”

Nazeing Parish Council approved the proposal for the development off Leonards Road by one vote, despite strong opposition from the community.

Epping Forest District Council maintained they have the final say on any potential development and as the personal relationship was raised during the meeting the vote can be counted.
