A 28-year-old has been ordered to pay £155 for spitting in the street.

Goergel Calancea, of Aveling Park Road in Walthamstow, was spotted spitting twice by a police officer at Walthamstow Bus Station on April 22.

He changed his plea to guilty at Thames magistrates Court on Friday.

Through a Romanian interpreter he told the court that he had felt sick when he came off the Tube and had spat because of this.

He was fined £35 for spitting, ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £100 legal costs.

Khasheem Kiah Thomas, of Clarence Road, Hackney, and Zilvinus Vitkas of Beechworth Road, Ilford, were the first people to be prosecuted by Waltham Forest council for the offence in September 2013.

Both were fined £300 in their absence.
