A driver has been jailed for causing the death of a woman on the A12.

Sam Tucker, of Harold Hill, was sentenced to six-years and four-months at Snaresbrook Crown Court yesterday and banned from driving for eight years.

On May 13, police were called to Newbury Park underground station at around 11.10pm.

Yothini Sriskandapalan, 29, of Aldborough Road North, Ilford, was driving on the A12 and turned across the eastbound carriageway when a BMW collided into the front nearside of her car, causing her to suffer severe head injuries.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tucker is believed to have been driving his BMW at a speed of at least 65mph in a 40mph zone.

He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Detective Sergeant Abi Lambkin, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Tucker was driving a powerful vehicle well in excess of the legal speed limit, and his recklessness in doing so sadly resulted in the death of Mrs Sriskandapalan.

"I hope that his sentence acts as a deterrent to anyone who thinks that speeding and driving dangerously on the roads of London is an acceptable thing to do - It is not, and this sad incident is a stark warning of the dangers and consequences faced by those who do."
