A warning letter was sent to parents this week after a primary school pupil was approached by a man on a bus.

Last Wednesday, the Year 3 pupil was alone on the 145 bus on his way to Buxton Primary School, in Terling Close, Leytonstone, when the incident happened.

The boy was approached by a man, and when he was warned by a member of the public, he became aggressive and stormed off the bus, according to the school.

it comes after Larkswood Primary School, in New Road, Chingford, decided to permanently shut an alleyway leading to the school following an incident involving a year 6 pupil on October 24.

A man tried to engage the girl in conversation in the alleyway, but no attempt was made to abduct or harm her.

In a letter send to parents this week, Buxton executive headteacher Kathleen Wheeler said she had spoken to children during assembly and classes about the safety.

She also warned parents to be vigilant.

The letter said: “On November 19, a Buxton School pupil between the ages of 7 and 8-years-old was making his way to school on his own using the 145 bus, when he was approached by a man who apparently started a conversation with the boy.

“A member of staff from another educational establishment intervened and asked the man not to speak to the child.

“He became aggressive and got off the bus, the adult contacted us to make us aware of the situation.

“I am aware a number of children journey to and from the school on their own.

“It would be my preference that pupils are accompanied by an adult, however I understand that as children become older and we teach them independence, the need for them to make their journey to school on their own becomes more and more essential.

“I therefore urge you to be mindful of the dangers as of above.”

Warnings have also been issued in neighbouring Enfield after an attempted child abduction.
