A fundraising drive is being launched to secure a summer school inside the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park next year.

The park's official charity, the Legacy List is hoping to raise £20,000 through The Big Christmas Challenge which will see charities access over £2 million in match funding.

Since 2012, the summer school run in partnership with children's charity SPACE, has reached out to hundreds of children from schools across the host boroughs by engaging them in workshops led by artists.

The £20,000 raised will allow the charity to work with 10 local schools and 500 pupils next summer.

Fiona Fieber, head of learning at SPACE, said: "We know from experience that when children and artists get together the results are often unexpected and always magical.

"Challenging topics are explored openly and with sensitivity. Children often find themselves doing things they would never normally dare and achieving things they would never normally believe possible."

The Big Give Christmas Challenge will begin on December 4.
