A man has admitted carrying a kitchen knife in public after his mother called the police. 

Robert Chadwick, arrived armed at the family home in Templeton Avenue, Chingford, on November 21. 

The 30-year-old's mother, Trudy Chadwick, contacted the police after spotting the eight-inch kitchen knife and he left the house.

A police helicopter was scrambled to search for him and he was found nearby in possession of the weapon.

Thames Magistrates Court heard yesterday heard how Ms Chadwick phoned the police as she was concerned for her son, but was not threatened.

As part of his bail conditions, Chadwick is staying with his brother in Montalt Road, Woodford Green, and must not contact his mother or return to Templeton Avenue. 

Chadwick will be sentenced at Thames Magistrates Court on January 5.
