A driver accused of failing to stop at the scene of a collision has appeared in court.
Emergency services were called to Leytonstone High Road on October 18 following reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
A woman was hit on the zebra crossing which resulted in several minor injuries.
Domenico Trapanese from Park Way in Whetstone, Barnet, was arrested by police and charged with failing to stop after a road accident, no insurance, and driving without due care and attention.
Appearing at Thames Magistrates Court today, the 45-year-old pleaded not guilty to all three offences which can carry up to a six-month prison sentence.
He told the court: "I did stop at the scene but I got into a confrontation with two men and had a panic attack.
"I walked round the corner to calm down. I drove off before the police arrived."
He said he suffers from panic attacks following a knife attack six years ago where he was stabbed six times.
Trapanese has been released on unconditional bail to return to Thames Magistrates Court on December 17.
