Schoolchildren have helped spread the festive cheer by performing a carols concert.

Young pupils from Chase Lane Primary School in York Road, performed their favourite carols as they sang to an audience at Churchill's King Henry Lodge retirement home in Hall Lane, Chingford.

The service on December 2 featured children from years 2 to 6 and was designed to bring some joy to the older community, in what can sometimes be described as the loneliest time of year.

Yvette Christy, Regional marketing executive at Churchill Retirement Living, said: "It is wonderful to see the generations come together to celebrate Christmas.

"It can be a difficult time for some people, but having events such as this helps to spread the Christmas cheer.

"The pupils at Chase Lane Primary School sang beautifully and I know that all the owners at King Henry Lodge thoroughly enjoyed the carols and are now feeling very festive."
