A fifth shop will this week face Waltham Forest council’s licensing committee after selling counterfeit products.

An operation by police, Trading Standards and Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs checked more than 50 shops in the borough.

To date, three shops have had their alcohol licence revoked and one had it suspended.

Now, Diana Supermarket in Forest Road, Walthamstow, will face the licensing committee on Friday.

Council licensing officer, Susan Ferguson, was one of those who visited the shop during the operation on February 26.

The owner of the shop, Kemal Koca, was behind the counter at the time.

In her statement, Ms Ferguson said he told them there were no illicit products on site.

She said: “In total, 84 litres of wine and 0.35kg of hand rolling tobacco were seized from the shop.

“The licensing service believes Mr Koca has little regard for the promotion of the licensing objectives and the premises licence should be revoked.”

The shop has a licence to sell alcohol until 1am during the week and 11.30pm on a Sunday.

A five-page petition has been submitted to the council in support of the shop.

It asks for the council to allow it to keep its licence.

The committee will meet at the town hall in Walthamstow at 2pm on Friday.

Last week, the licensing committee revoked the licence of a restaurant for employing illegal immigrants.
