A pedestrian is in a serious condition after he attempted to cross a section of the A406 on Sunday.

Police are "desperately" appealing for witnesses following the accident involving a silver Porsche Carrera on the eastbound stretch of the North Circular, near the Waterworks Roundabout.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Woodford at around 9.15pm.

Paramedics treated the 41-year-old before he was taken to an east London hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

The driver of the Porsche stopped at the scene and was not arrested.

Police believe the man was attempting to cross the A406 which spans ten lanes. The collision occurred in the right-hand lane in the eastbound carriage section.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Henson, from the serious collision investigation unit at Chadwell Heath, said: "This is an extremely busy stretch of road that has five lanes in each direction and has no pavements or crossing facilities for pedestrians.

"We are desperately seeking any witnesses who may have seen the collision or the pedestrian in the road just prior to the collision."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the witness appeal line on 0208 597 4874.
