The same gang could be responsible for a spate of burglaries in the Chingford area, detectives believe.

Police are warning homeowners to be vigilant in the run-up to Christmas after a number of break-ins in Inks Green, Ropers Avenue and Ainslie Wood Road, and an attempted burglary in Templeton Avenue.

The Aslam family home in Inks Green was ransacked by three men at around 2.15pm on December 2.

Asian gold jewellery, an Apple Mac Pro, a Mercedes SL 500 convertible and a VW Golf was stolen during the raid.

They gained entry by smashing the glass panel of the side-door and climbing through.

Police released CCTV footage after men tried to break into the property in Templeton Avenue on December 2.

Detective Inspector Brian Jones, of Waltham Forest burglary team, said: "We have visited the homeowners in this area with regards to the steps they can take to help make their properties even safer, particularly side access and rear doors.

"Burglaries in London are at the lowest level in forty years and in Waltham Forest residential burglary is down by 17 per cent this financial year, but there are still too many people falling victim to burglary and there is more to do.

"Home owners can help us to further prevent burglary by safeguarding their homes and valuables.

"Think like a burglar and you are likely to notice that your home and possessions are vulnerable."

Anyone who has any information in relation to these incident should call Waltham Forest police on 07833 058767 or alternatively crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
