A man charged with stabbing a mother to death infront of her young daughter will now enter a plea next year.

Lloyd Byfield, 48, of no fixed address, was charged with murder and common assault after Leighann Duffy, 26, was knifed in the neck and arm in Haverley Road, Walthamstow, on September 1.

The mother-of-one died in hospital two days later from a fatal stab wound to her neck.

Byfield was scheduled to enter a plea when he appeared at the Old Bailey on December 9, but this has now been deferred until January 14.

The court have also set a provisional trial date for March 16.

Ms Duffy's six-year-old daughter was inside the flat at the time of the attack and received treatement at the scene for a minor injury.

A family living closy-by tried effortlessly to keep the 26-year-old alive as they waited for up to twenty minutes for paramedics to arrive.
