A couple who scooped over half a million in a lotto draw have donated dozens of gifts to a pet charity.

Owner Maria Miller of the Little Darlings charity shop and animal rescue centre in Old Church Road, Chingford, was treated to a surprise visit by self-confessed animal lovers Donna and Carl Trainer last week.

The couple wanted to bring to some festive cheer to the high street this Christmas after they matching all six numbers back in January and winning £541, 609.

Glitzy dog beds packed full of pet food, accessories and toys were given to Ms Miller which will now be stocked in the shop and sold on with all proceeds going towards re-homing ill, abandoned and mistreated animals.

Mrs Trainer said: "The delivery of the hamper of goodies is our way of giving a little something back this Christmas."

Ms Miller said receiving gifts from Lottery winners was a first for the rescue centre.

"We are fortunate to be so well supported by our local community, in all manner of ways, but I have to admit this is the first time we have received a visit from National Lottery winners.

"These gifts will help keep our animals entertained and comfortable through the winter months when things can get pretty tough."
