A fourth Walthamstow shop has had its licence to sell alcohol revoked.

An operation by police, Trading Standards and HM Revenue and Customs checked more than 50 shops in the borough in one day in February.

Following a number of licence reviews, three shops have had their alcohol licence revoked and one had it suspended.

Now, Diana Supermarket in Forest Road, Walthamstow, has become the fourth to be banned from selling alcohol.

Council licensing officer, Susan Ferguson, was one of those who visited the shop during the operation on February 26.

In her statement she said 84 litres of wine were seized as they were suspected to be illicit.

The owner of the shop, Kemal Koca, was behind the counter at the time.

The shop had a licence to sell alcohol until 1am during the week and 11.30pm on a Sunday.

A five-page petition was submitted to the council in support of the shop.

The committee made the decision on Friday.

If the shop appeals, it will be allowed to sell alcohol until the process is complete.
