Youngsters at a pre-school have enjoyed a Christmas party after a community came together to raise funds stolen during a break-in.

Police were called on December 8 following evidence of forced entry to Kinsley Hall Pre-School, in Austen Close, Loughton, where they found a back door had been broken in between 10pm on Friday and 10am on Saturday.

A total of £522 saved for yesterday's party was stolen.

Following a community effort over £700 was raised by donations from local businesses, parents and strangers allowing staff at the school to host the party for the two to four-year-olds.

A magician, Father Christmas and a balloon modeller entertained the youngsters before they were presented with a Christmas lunch donated by Tesco in Waltham Abbey.

Pre-school manager Jackie Dent-Burnett said: "The party was a huge success, it went so well and all of the children had a really lovely time.

"Thanks to the donations received we were able to hold the party and each child received a gift and sweets from Father Christmas.

"The community raised more than what was stolen, and we were able to hand out extra presents.

"We have £256 left which will be used to fund new equipment and toys for the school.

"We cannot thank everyone enough, everyone has been so kind.

"Thank you for restoring our faith in people after the break-in."
