The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Walthamstow has fallen by 31 per cent in four years.

Figures released by the Office of National Statistics yesterday show 1,236 fewer people are claiming the benefit than 2010.

The ONS published regional employment statistics for the three months to October 2014, and constituency claimant count figures for November 2014.

Molly Samuel-Leport, the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Walthamstow, claimed the fall shows the government is delivering security for families.

"This is a clear sign that the Conservatives' long-term economic plan is working – helping people get off benefits and into work," she said.
