Hospital staff are hoping to break into the Top 40 with a charity Christmas single.

Merry Christmas Everyone 2014 was launched last week by the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University trust (BHRUT) inspired by Shakin' Stevens 1981 Christmas hit.

Twenty three staff from departments across Queen’s hospital in Romford and King George hospital in Goodmayes were involved in the recording.

The single was organised by chief pharmacy technician Michael Dixie with the help of Havering Youth Service which allowed them to record the single in its studio in Harold Hill.

Mr Dixie said: "To get this done and released in two to three weeks has been a great achievement.

“It was great to see so many staff from different departments get together and we are hoping the song and the money raised will bring some Christmas cheer to sick and injured patients at our local hospitals.”

CDs are being sold for £3 and the download is going to be available via iTunes, GooglePlay, Amazon and other stores in the run-up to Christmas for just 99p.

Alternatively you can donate via text message by texting: KGQH14 £3 to 70070.

All proceeds will go to King George & Queen’s Hospitals Charity, which funds projects which enhance the hospital experience for patients, visitors and staff.
