Weird ways of serving Brussels sprouts were devised by children aiming to challenge the much-maligned vegetable’s bad reputation.
Chilli Chocolate, toffee and jerk chicken were proposed as accompaniments in a competition to find ways of making brussels more appealing at Buxton School in Leytonstone.
But it was the addition of peri peri sauce which won a vote for the best serving suggestion.
The winning dish was proposed by Ugne Brigyte, 16, who said: "It is well known that young people are not too fond of Brussels sprouts, in fact I can't think of many people that like them.”
The combination was served as part of the school’s Christmas dinner on Friday.
Peri peri Sprout fan Zinedine Benyaha, 12, said: "I don't usually like Brussels sprouts but these are brilliant. I want them for Christmas dinner at home."
Headteacher Kathleen Wheeler added: "We believe strongly that students are more influential and successful if they are given a voice.”
"This project was fun and inclusive and made it possible for students to combine democracy with healthy eating."
