Hundreds of children in care are set to receive Christmas presents following a police appeal.

Residents, officers and police staff in Redbridge donated the gifts handed over this week by Borough Commander Sue Williams to Councillor Elaine Norman, cabinet member for children and young people.

Sue Williams said; “I would like to thank everybody for the wonderful gifts donated to children in care on this Borough.

“This is the first time we have done anything like this on Redbridge although the Met did a similar appeal outside New Scotland Yard last year.

"I have to say I was sceptical that this campaign would work locally, given all the other charities and events taking place but I was bowled over by your generosity and any doubts I had were dispelled when I saw hundreds of presents packaged and delivered to Children's Services for the children in care on the Borough.

“I know that these gifts will be gratefully received and it is a truly wonderful gesture to give to someone more in need at this time of year.

“Thank you for supporting this campaign your gift was very much appreciated.”
