A 30-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man in his late fifties was stabbed in the street.

Police were called to Richmond Road in Ilford at 3.35am yesterday following reports of an attack.

The victim was found with a stab injury and taken to hospital and later died.

He has not been formally identified and his next of kin are yet to be informed.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Russell Taylor, who is leading the investigation, said: "I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the stabbing, or the build up to the incident to contact us.

“We know that a number of people were at a party at a nearby address and it is possible that they saw something of importance.

“We are particularly keen to speak with anyone who attended that event who is yet to come forward."
