Plans to turn Walthamstow Central station into a multi-million pound travel, retail and housing complex have been submitted to the council.

Solum Regeneration is hoping to begin phase two of its plans, which includes an enhanced station entrance, retail space, extra cycling facilities, 79 homes and an upgraded car park.

The developer has already built a high-rise hotel, 69 homes and shops in the station's former car park.

Solum Regeneration is a partnership between Network Rail and Kier Property.

Solum Regeneration director, Peter Hughes, said: “The first phase of the Walthamstow Central station development is widely seen as a catalyst for the regeneration of Walthamstow.

“This further investment that we are making demonstrates the confidence that we have in the area and will bring more high quality homes to Walthamstow.

“All of the apartments in phase one sold very quickly and we believe with its great transport links, and other regeneration projects, Walthamstow is a place on the up.”

The council’s local plan aims to build 2,000 new homes in the town centre.

Solum Regeneration has suggested the use of the station car park for an additional 150 homes.

Independent traders in the area have been given notice to leave. 

A petititon has been started by customers to allow a small coffee kiosk owner to stay in the area.
