A flood alert is in place for large areas of land surrounding the Middle River Roding.
The Environment Agency issued the alert at around 4pm yesterday afternoon for areas between Abridge and Woodford Green, after heavy rain on Wednesday night and Thursday morning fell on ground already saturated with water.
Low-lying land in Abridge and Loughton is particularly likely to flood, with the potential for the Roding to burst its banks in places.
Standing surface water is expected to remain, but the Environment Agency does not expect any property flooding.
Further light showers are expected today, with the potential for heavier rain tomorrow.
