A man was disqualified from driving today after a high speed police chase through residential roads.

Ben Parsons, 19, of Trafalgar Avenue, Broxbourne, admitted driving dangerously today at Thames Magistrates Court.

The court heard that in the early hours of September 27, Mr Parsons was driving “at speed” in his silver Nissan Micra along Chigwell Road, Woodford Green.

A police officer was driving past the Nissan and immediately turned around to follow the car with his sirens on.

The police car chased him for around 20 minutes from Woodford Green to Chingford.

The route included driving down Chigwell Road, Grange Farm Lane in Chigwell and Beresford Road in Chingford.

Prosecuting, Vic Younis, said that during the chase, Mr Parsons’s car was on the "wrong side of the road", driving "over 50 miles per hour" through residential streets and he was "undercutting other vehicles".

He finally came to a stop when he crashed into a gate post in Beresford Road.

While being arrested by police, Mr Parsons said: “I am sorry, I panicked.”

Mr Parsons was given an interim driving ban today and has been released on unconditional bail.

He will be sentenced on January 26 at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
