A man was fined today for stealing 12 jars of coffee.
Henda Kulasinghe, 31, of Elm Road, Leytonstone, admitted to the theft at Thames Magistrates Court today.
The court heard that at 3.10pm on December 23, Mr Kulasinghe walked into the tea and coffee section of FarmFoods, in High Street, Walthamstow.
He put his shoulder bag on the floor and placed 12 jars of coffee, costing £30, into it.
While walking out of the shop he was detained by security staff and the coffee was returned to the shop.
Mitigating, Ms Dark, said Mr Kulasinghe stole the coffee to fund his drug problem.
She said: “He accepts he has issues with drugs and he took the coffee in order to pay for this.
“He only moved from Sri Lanka two years ago and he works in the market in Walthamstow so after getting help he will no longer need to steal.”
Mr Kulasinghe was given a total fine of £225.
