A man has been banned after being caught drink driving after a Christmas party .

Kayes Hoque, 31, of Graham Road, Hackney, admitted being over the alcohol limit for driving at Thames Magistrates Court today.

The court heard that on the morning of December 27, police saw Mr Hoque parked in his black Volkswagen Golf in Snaresbrook Road, Wanstead.

Prosecuting, Vic Younis, said: “Police said there was no reason why he had stopped in the middle of the road and he was promptly tested for alcohol.”

When breathalysed he was found to have 93 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, which is over the lawful limit of 80 milligrammes.

Letting agent, Mr Hoque, said he believed the alcohol in his system was from a Christmas night party but he thought that he was no longer over the drink driving limit.

He said: “I had been out on Christmas night and partying right into the morning the next day, finishing around 10 or 11am.

“Despite getting no sleep, Boxing Day was very busy with a lot of family errands and I just had one more drink.

“The next morning I did not think I was over the limit and if I had known I would not have driven, I thought the alcohol had left my system by then.

“The reason I stopped my car was because my mobile phone rang and I needed to take an important call.”

Mr Hoque was given an interim disqualification from driving today and has been released on unconditional bail.

He will be sentenced next Tuesday at the same court.
