The headteacher has been selected for a brand new primary school.

United Learning has appointed Stephanie Thomas as the Founding Principal of Walthamstow Primary Academy, a free school opening in September.

The new primary school, next to Walthamstow Academy on Billet Road, will open with up to 60 Reception places in September this year.

Eventually, the school will have 420 pupils in 2021 as it gradually takes on year groups.

Mrs Thomas has left the first primary free school in the country, Aldborough Primary School in Redbridge, where she is deputy headteacher, for the job.

Thomas was formerly an Assistant Headteacher at Brampton Primary School in Newham, which is rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

She said: “I am very excited to be taking up this role as the first Principal of Walthamstow Primary Academy.

“There are plans in place to create a very special school here. I have already really enjoyed meeting a number of families and can’t wait to get to know as many members of our local community as possible.”
